In many roles, Brittany Ferries staff interact directly with a predominantly British clientele, so a good command of English is essential. The level of English required varies depending on the position. Spoken English is assessed during recruitment, as is spoken French.
With 14 different trades,deck and engine personnel are responsible for the seagoing operation of the ships. They also ensure passenger safety in accordance with the standards set by the company.
The areas of navigation, maintenance and loading include the following positions: Captain, Chief Officer, Radio-Electrotechnical Officer, Lieutenant, Bosun, Able Seaman, Chief Engineer, Second Engineer, Engineering Officer, Engine Room Supervisor, Electrical Supervisor, Engine Room Rating, and Assistant Mechanic.

The hospitality staff is responsible for ensuring the quality of the services offered on board, in strict compliance with quality, hygiene and safety standards. This group of professions contributes, through professionalism and a strong sense of service, to the well-being and comfort of passengers. Hospitality staff can progress within the onboard hierarchy by applying to internal job postings.
The following onboard hospitality positions are recruited each season:
Experienced seasonal staff begin work from Easter through to All Saints’ Day. New recruits join progressively, depending on passenger numbers. Staff work in various areas of the ship: mobility, availability and versatility are essential.
Additional student staff reinforce the teams during the peak season linked to British school holidays, which runs from the end of July until at least mid September. Experience in catering (two seasons) is recommended.
Before boarding, staff must be registered as Seafarers (Maritime Registration Procedure) and must have completed STCW (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers) safety training. Before this training, you must be familiar with the English vocabulary related to on board safety.
Brittany Ferries places passenger well-being and safety at the heart of its priorities. In the event of emergencies or medical care, on board medical staff intervene in coordination with the relevant medical authorities, under the responsibility of the Ship’s Master and the company Chief Medical Officer.
We recruit seasonal nurses (M/F), registered state-qualified nurses with three years’ experience in a hospital environment, specifically in an emergency department or intensive care unit. In addition to a thorough command of their profession, candidates are expected to demonstrate strong human and interpersonal qualities, a professional appearance, and a good level of English.

The mission of the commercial department staff is to welcome, inform, guide and assist customers during their journey, and to assist them in selecting from a wide range of holiday products.
Terminal and port staff members are recruited on seasonal contracts - either part - or full-time. These posts demand a high level of flexibility, with a wide range of roles including both passenger and freight reception, and boarding and disembarkation controls.
Support functions, and Group management and administration:
Based predominantly in the company headquarters in Roscoff, these are employees, managers and senior executives working across four sectors.
